Just a quick update. Sledgehammer is once again down for an overhaul. The park was able to operate the ride for about 4 days this season. I believe Iain will be able to correct me/expand on this, but the main section of the ride is in rough shape and needs be be completely removed and repaired/replaced. I believe it was the main "rod"?

The hope is to have Sledgehammer back up and running by the end of June.

Something tells me Sledgehammer's life is running out. The ride is so hard to maintain, and seems like when you fix one part, two parts break. I'm starting to lean towards removal of the ride and introduction of a new flat in it's place.
Haunt is gone.

The fact that they are completely replacing the entire main section of the ride makes me feel like this repair will be the do or die of Sledgehammer.

I agree. With the plug pulled on Kings Island's Crypt I am not confident Cedar Fair will keep Sledgehammer around much longer. I get that people like the ride and it's unique, but when an attraction is closed more than it's open you need to cut your losses and move on.

i didnt hear that they were replacing it, i heard that they were sending it out to be ground down, then it will have to be replated, im guessing its either slightly bent, or its pitted really badly and leaks fluid ? those are really the only 2 reasons to do that repair.

i was in the back tho so i may have heard it wrong

I heard him say the centre rod was in bad shape so they sent it out to be replaced or fixed and hopefully they'll get it back in a week so they can get sledge hammer running by the end of June I believe.

I would hate to lose a one of a kind ride that is actually really good when it's working... I sure hope they can fix the major problems soon!

Sledge Hammer Update: Sledge Hammer was operating today. I arrived at the park and my sister pointed out that it was running. So we got in line and it was 5 minutes almost get on but it broke down for 10 minutes and we got on. After that is was open until I left.

^ Same I went the same day as you but when Sledgehammer was wrking I had my suspicions that they had to test from 5min-10min also that day Leviathan in the last hour or two was closed due to resons unkown but an hour later it was operating.

I got a ride on Sledge yesterday and it almost feels like the ride program has been speeded up a little bit as well as the "accelerated freefalls" feel like they have more kick to them. But hey, maybe that's just me considering I had not ridden it in over a year before-hand.

Rode 4 times today, seemed to be running better than my previous rides.

I rode Sledge yesterday, it seemed to be running well but it was making some interesting sounds - it seemed like it was groaning from the movements. I've never heard that while riding it before.

I had a chance at the ride (only my 3rd time ever getting on it) and yeah it is making some crazy sounds but its a great ride.

It seemed to be sending through about 4-5 groups of people, then going down for 10 minutes, running an empty cycle and then taking people on it again. Towards the end of yesterday (monday) around 830 I went over for a end of day ride and it was shut down for an uknown amount of time and had maintenance staff walking around the ride but I did see it do an empty cycle before leaving. I hope they have got this one up and going for the long term.

So glad to hear it's back up and running. Hopefully it can make it for the rest of the season without any major disruptions. It's such a great ride.
