Thank you CWMania for all your hard work putting yesterday's amazing event together! It was so much fun to spend the day with such a great group of people! The ERTs and activities were a blast and I especially enjoyed looking back through the park's history during coffee hour. Can't wait for the next event! :-)

Hey everyone! So here it is, a wrap-up of Leviamania 2012. First, I'd like to say THANK YOU to Jeff, Dan, Dineen and everyone else at Canada's Wonderland for making yesterday such a HUGE success. And thank you to all you CWManiacs for coming out and supporting us! We can't wait to do it again!

Now, on to the report!

The full set of pictures can be found here: http://www.cwmania.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=266

Image
Welcome CWMania to Leviamania 2012!

Image
We started the morning off by heading up to the top of Wonder Mountain. We used the stairs located in the mountain, right by Thunder Run's station.

Image
We're "Authorized Personnel" today!

Image
The view of the park is just amazing up here. Leviathan is just as impressive up here as it is down low.

Image
Leviathan's station, lift and final brake run.

Image
Early morning testing was well under way. Do you see the maintenance worker in this picture?

Image
As promised, here's that spot on the mountain where the control booth for the Eruption was located. This "patched" area is the spot where Paramount cut out the "pool" of the top waterfall. Wonderland fixed it up after being purchased by Cedar Fair.

Image
Time to head back down so we can go ride Leviathan!

Image
Our first group-shot of the day. What a great looking group 8)

Image
With the pictures taken, it was time to RIDE. Here's the first row of the first train of the day.

Image
Yep, they LOVE Leviathan!

Image
A little lube always helps when it's cold out!

Image
This group thought they'd drop in for some Drop Tower ERT.

Image
And we all gave Wild Beast some ERT love too.

Image
We surprised the group with being on the first WindSeeker ride of the day. The Hill's seemed to be pretty happy about it.

Up next was the continental breakfast and Management Q&A. Norm was amazing - he gave some great answers to great questions. Here's a few of the highlights:

Leviathan's tunnel is an evolving creature of its own. There's more to come. It's not done yet.

Sledgehammer was only up for about 4 days this season. It's back down for extensive maintenance. The centre rod is damaged and needs to be removed. They hope to have it back up and running by the end of June.

The original name/theme pitch for Behemoth was Leviathan (lots of hills right by the water - looks just like a sea monster). The COO at the time wasn't a fan of the idea. So we ended up with Behemoth. Fast forward to the B&M Giga coaster we just received. The park pitched Leviathan again (to the new management team) and they loved it. Now it just seems a bit odd, maybe we should have switched the names/themes around. So to compensate, we got an amazing entry plaza with that beautiful fountain!

Norm was also asked if other manufacturers were considered for a Giga coaster. He promptly responded that there's only one company he could think of for a steel coaster, B&M.

Back Lot Stunt Coaster is having work done on the LIMs. Until they've all be recoiled, they will have to continue to run trains with only 8 people (leaving the back 4 seats empty).

The original plan for Top Gun (now Flight Deck) was a B&M inverted. We were REALLY close to signing a deal UNTIL... B&M contacted Wonderland and advised them they had signed an exclusivity deal with Cedar Point. No other park within a 200 mile radius (as the crow flies) of Cedar Point could build a B&M Invert. Canada's Wonderland is at the 198 mile mark. We were only 2 MILES away from getting a B&M invert!!!! So we ended up with the Vekoma SLC model instead.

Norm was a part of the development team for WindSeeker. Wonderland has such a great relationship with Mondial that Cedar Fair took note. He along with other Cedar Fair executives went to Europe and worked with Mondial to create WindSeeker. So WE were first.

The park hasn't hammered down the exact number of Fast Lane wristbands that will be available. They're selling well. They're still working on finding that perfect balance of Fast Lane riders versus non-Fast Lane.

Dinosaurs Alive cost approximately 5-6 million dollars to install. The dinosaurs were out all winter long and are able to stay out all year 'round. They are similar to the dinosaurs at the Calgary Zoo that go through much harsher winters than us.

Jet Scream did not end up in Venezuela. The original purchasers of the ride have put it back up for sale.

If I or anyone else remembers more details from Q&A, please feel free to post the info here!

Image
After breakfast and chatting with Management, we decided to go check out Dinosaurs Alive. This one was was a bit thirsty.

Image
Is this sign referring to the gray shirt to the left or the dinosaur on the hill?

Image
There are A LOT of dinosaurs. They look and sound great along with lots of movement. There are even interactive dinosaurs that you can make move!

Image
Just diggin' for bones. The kids LOVE this area.

Image
After checking out the dinosaurs, we walked back over to Leviathan for our walk-back tour. We started under Leviathan's station.

Image
Gate opens, gate closes. This mechanism is what opens and closes the gates so you can get your ride on Leviathan.

Image
Leviathan's electrical room. This is the "brain" of the entire ride.

Image
Where have I seen these plans before???

Image
Next we headed over to Dragon Fire to get pictures under Leviathan's first drop. Quick! Everyone get your cameras out, here comes the train!

Image
STEEP drop ahead.

Image
Love this shot of the corkscrews on Dragon Fire.

Image
Time for another surprise, walk-back to Wild Beast's inner field. GROUP SHOT!

Image
Oh ya, they're all jealous of us ;)

Image
Next up was lunch. Love a good old cook-out! After filling our bellies, we played a round of CWMania Bingo. We had some awesome prizes. Thanks to Peter and the rest of the Management gang for providing some unique coaster-part prizes.

Image
Aldo (aka jetscreamlover) was presented with the TSSA placard from Jet Scream. THANK YOU PETER for this amazing gift!

Image
And thank you Dineen for working with us to set up this amazing event. Everyone signed this as we registered in the morning. I'll be looking for it the next time we stop by your office Dineen!

After a lot of free time in the park, we met at the Backlot Cafe once again for coffee and cake. Dineen was able to find some books and binders with LOTS of historical items. I think we even found a picture of Norm from the early 80s! We hope to get more coverage of those materials soon.

Image
After getting our sugar, cafeine and history fix, it was time for evening ERT! We had a great time on Behemoth.

Image
Behemoth was riding really well. LOTS of airtime and LOTS of happy riders.

Image
The park surprised us with this logo on the yellow Behemoth train. They like us, they really, really like us!

Image
And for the final surprise of the night... How about Back Lot Stunt Coaster with the tunnel lights ON. What a great way to end a great day!

I hope everyone that attended had an amazing time. And I hope those that weren't able to attend will be able to join us for one of our future events. Thank you again to EVERYONE involved.

Both Tina and I had a fantastic time at Leviamania this past weekend. Our sincere thanks go out to Dan and his entire CWMania team for putting this all together!

As an aside... Kudos to the park for giving Aldo the Jet Scream TSSA placard. Aside from making one man's day (year?), it illustrated that the park does indeed care about its guests (and perhaps more specifically, us enthusiasts). Heck, seeing Aldo get that placard made _my_ day. And I think that's saying something.

Leviamania was beyond awesome and the staff at CWMania and Wonderland deserve a big THANK YOU for all their hard work making this great event possible.

I was so happy we were allowed to go to the top of the mountain. I have been wanting to go up there for more than 20 years and I FINALLY got to experience it!! It was also nice to see the inside of the mountain. I could not believe how big it is inside. Thank you Jeff and Nick for pointing out stuff inside the mountain to me :D

The only thing I can remember (at the moment) about the Q&A is that Dinosaurs Alive cost around $5-6 million to put in and that the dinosaurs are safe to stay outside during the off season. They do not have to be stored inside during the winter months. And apparently Jet Scream is not going to Venezuela anymore and it is for sale again.

I am thankful that I was given permission to bring the photo album I made on the history of Canada's Wonderland and share it with all of you. I am glad that people enjoyed looking at it. I am also happy Dineen brought some Wonderland archives.

And lastly........

I AM STILL IN SHOCK AND SPEECHLESS ABOUT RECEIVING THE JET SCREAM PLAQUE!!!!!!! When I was called up and saw Peter holding something I originally thought it was a nice photo of Jet Scream taken when it first opened. I was literally in disbelief that he had the plaque and gave it to me!!! I thought I was going to cry. I always thought how nice it would be to have something from Jet Scream but I never thought it would actually happen. THANK YOU WONDERLAND AND CWMANIA. I AM TRULY GRATEFUL FOR THIS. BECAUSE OF THIS YOU HAVE TAKEN AWAY THE SADNESS I HAVE HAD SINCE JET SCREAM WAS REMOVED AND YOU HAVE MADE ME SMILE AGAIN!!!

Just wanted to say thanks, it was an awesome day at the park. I feel spoiled after not having to wait in line for essentially anything all day. Great job organizing the event guys it was super cool. The wonder mountain walk and the leviathan track walk were definately the highlights for me, it was really cool to see the ride that close. I couldn't beleive how wide the main supports on the lift hill were until I was standing beside them, those things are massive. Anyways, again, great job and thanks for putting this together.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped organize this amazing event! :D Another part of the Q & A session was this: Were any other manufacturers considered when designing Leviathan? Norm answered this one and he responded: There is only one person I work with on steel rollercoasters and that is Walter Bolliger!

Had a blast at Leviamania! Thanks to Wonderland and CWMania for organizing it :).
There are so many things that I could write about during that day, but I think I'll keep it brief.
-I took close to 400 photos of pretty much every thing in sight!
-I really enjoyed riding Backlot Stunt Coaster with the lights on, I finally know what the whole layout looks like.
-After riding the Behemoth over and over in every row (or almost every row), I'm no longer scared of it . This was also the first time that I noticed the vibrations everyone keeps talking about, and TBH I found that they were only noticable at the bottom of the first drop, and didn't take away from the ride experience at all.
-The walk-back tours and the Wonder mountain walk-up were AMAZING, and were worth the price alone.
-Wild Beast felt MUCH smoother and I actually had alot of fun riding it. Did anyone else notice that?
-Dinosaurs alive and the movie are great additions to the park, and well worth the $6 you pay for both. I would do it again some time.
Overall just had an amazing day, and thanks again to Wonderland and CWMania for such a great day :).

Hey everyone:

Glad to finally have a chance to say thanks to everyone here and at the park who put together quite possibly the best day I’ve ever had at Wonderland!

Congratulations on such a great event! All of my guests, two of which had never been to Toronto or the park before, had an absolute blast! There was enough ERT to confirm how amazing Leviathan and Behemoth are, no doubt. The biggest complement from my guests about the park was how great the ride ops and staff were throughout the day and in particular during ERT. There was also huge love for Sky Rider, which ended being a new favorite stand-up for at least one, pulling ahead of Ridler’s Revenge. Who would have thought? Wild Beast seemed to be the most painful of the woodies on Sunday, with one of my guests saying that it was a “Son of Beast” type ride experience. No matter, I’ll always show it tons of love, it has always been a favorite ;)

The lights on in Backlot’s tunnel was a cool surprise as was the event’s logo on Behemoth’s yellow train. The Wonder Mountain tour gave a new appreciation of the detail that went into building the park. I personally loved flipping through the old media/ newspaper clippings during coffee. Dinasour's Alive! was a really nice surprise in how well it was put together. Plus, Donald Sutherland was narrating a pretty good film--total bonus points!

Above all, it was great finally being able to meet other CWManiacs. The Bingo at lunch was crazy funny! I know that I will forever treasure my Wild Beast fan curve track ;)

Thanks again and cheers,
Jason
